Over the years, Siri has significantly improved in the linguistic department, with new languages added to the overall set. Keeping that in mind, we all know that you can change Siri’s language to converse with it in your preferred tongue but can Siri detect languages?
At the moment, Siri can only detect and recognize a single language at a time. However, you can go to Settings and change its language if needed. The limitation of this feature is that recognizing, hearing, or speaking in different languages at the same time requires complex coding and computation.
But there is a lot else that Siri can do as well. So, let’s take a look into how Siri makes up for the language limitation for its users.
How to make Siri understand a different language
There is no doubt that Siri is a smart voice assistant, but it cannot understand two languages at the same time. However, Siri can understand many other languages other than English.
To change the language, all you need to do is:
- Go to your Apple device’s Settings.
- Tap on Siri & Search.
- Select Language.
- Choose your preferred language and dialect for Siri from the list.
- Select a male or female Siri voice.
Once you are done changing Siri’s language, the commands will change as well. For instance, instead of saying “Hey Siri” in English, you can now say “Dis Siri” in French.
When you change the language on your iPhone, Siri’s language does not change. In simple words, Siri’s language does not have to match your iPhone’s language settings.
Siri can identify songs in different languages
If you were not aware, Siri can identify songs in different languages.
To use the feature, all you need to do is play the song on another device for Siri to hear. When the song is being played, you need to ask Siri to “Shazam this song”, “Shazam this”, “Identify this song,” etc.
In response, Siri will listen to that song and try identifying it, which will take a few seconds or maybe minutes. Upon identifying the song, it will show you the title and provide a link if it is available for purchase on iTunes.
Siri can recognize songs in several languages, such as French, Japanese, German, English, Korean, etc. This is another impressive feature that Siri users, especially avid music listeners find quite useful.
Concluding thoughts on whether Siri can detect languages
To sum it up, Siri is not yet able to detect multiple languages at the same time. Siri users will have to wait until developers can offer this feature, which is bound to take some time. Until then, you can use and play around with many other Siri features that are equally exciting.
