Alexa has become a part of our everyday life. She makes things so simple that we simply cannot get enough of this fantastic piece of technology. Whether you want to play music, turn the radio on, turn on your TV or make a call, Alexa will do everything for you.
Keeping all these things in mind, have you ever wondered if you can add contacts to Alexa without a phone?
Unfortunately, currently, there is no way to add contacts to Alexa without a phone. This is because you need the Alexa app to add contacts to Alexa, and for that, you need a phone.
However, we’ll guide you through the basic method of adding contacts to Alexa!
Adding contacts to Alexa through the Alexa app
Follow the given steps to add contacts to Alexa through the Alexa app;
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap on the Communicate icon at the bottom of the screen.
- To open the menu, tap the person-shaped Contacts icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the three-dot icon, which is the menu. The menu button is present in the upper right corner of your screen.
- Tap on the Import Contacts option.
- Activate the Import Contacts option by tapping the blue toggle button.
- Call or message anyone from your contact list by asking Alexa to do so. You can also ask Alexa to “Drop In” on those already using the Alexa device.
Note: Your Echo device(s) and the Alexa app both let you restrict who can call you. To block someone, choose Conversations, select Contacts, then click on the three-dot menu icon and block that person.
Creating separate entries into the Alexa app
If you do not want to import your entire contact list to Alexa, making individual entries inside the Alexa app is possible. Here’s how it is done;
- Select the Communicate option from the Alexa app.
- Tap on the Contacts icon in your screen’s upper right corner.
- Select the three-dot menu option in the upper right corner.
- Tap on the Add Contact option and fill in the necessary information of the person you want to add.
- Hit the save button once you are done.
Editing the Alexa contact list
The contact list from your smartphone is imported to Alexa. You can edit the contact list within Alexa through the Alexa app. Here’s what you need to do to edit the Alexa contact list;
- Select the Communicate option from the Alexa app.
- Choose the Contacts icon in the upper right corner.
- Select the contact you want to edit and tap on the Edit button in the upper right corner.
- When you tap Edit, you’ll be taken to a screen where you can edit the person’s first and last name here. However, if you wish to change the person’s number or email address, you need to make those changes in your mobile’s contacts so that the changes are also made in the Alexa app.
- Hit Save after you are done.
Note: You do not have to worry about updating contacts in Alexa. The import contact feature of Alexa automatically updates any new contact added to your smartphone in the Alexa app almost as soon as the contact is added.
Interacting with contacts through Alexa
Now that you’ve added contacts to Alexa, you also need to know how to access those contacts and engage with them.
Contacts without an Alexa account will only show the information you saved for them. Contacts with an Alexa account will display calls, messages, and Drop In options next to their name.
To contact the people with an Alexa account, turn on the Drop In option under the Drop In settings. You can now Drop In on these contacts anytime you want through the Echo device.
You can command Alexa to call or message the person you want to chat with or Drop In on those with an Alexa account.
